LIABILITY UPDATES FOR CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRISTS

 Donna Vanderpool, MBA, JD

 Saturday, November 18, 2023

10 AM – Noon

Program Overview                                         :

The program will begin with liability updates for all patients, with a focus on minor patients, and will address lessons learned from our suicide cases involving minors.  Confidentiality of minor patients will also be discussed with audience polling on whether information from the patient should be shared with the parents.  We will also provide updates on telepsychiatry requirements and conclude with a brief overview of emerging liability risks in psychiatry, including treatment with psychedelics.

After attending this live seminar, attendees will be able to:

·       Compare and contrast the liability exposure when treating minor patients versus adult patients.

·       Evaluate a minor patient’s right to confidentiality versus the parent’s right to know about treatment.

·       Apply the current requirements for telemedicine to their practice of telepsychiatry.

·       Recognize the various legal and clinical issues related to newer treatments in psychiatry such as psychedelics.
