The use of complex medication regimens for youth with mental health problems has increased significantly in the past few decades. There have been a number of academic studies and federal investigations over recent years, however, highlighting concerns with psychiatric polypharmacy for youth, especially for youth who are publicly insured and in the child welfare system.  The issue of psychiatric polypharmacy is of significant public health interest.  This program will provide clinical guidance in managing the psychiatric care for complex youth as well as background about the systemic challenges that inadvertently promote polypharmacy.  Additionally, the positive and negative impacts of government oversight initiatives will be reviewed.  The program will include several speakers and a breakout session to allow participants to consider clinical and systemic challenges related to polypharmacy through discussion of constructed clinical case.
